A Search for X-ray Reionization Signatures from Cross-correlation of Wmap and Rosat Rass Data

چکیده
We present an observational search for the possible correlation between cosmic microwave background (CMB) polarization map and soft X-ray background (SXRB) based on the ROSAT All-sky Survey (RASS) archive and WMAP fiveyear observations. This is motivated by the fact that some of the CMB polarization may arise from the scattering of CMB photons due to the free electrons generated by X-ray heating sources in the epoch of reionization. Detection of such a correlation allows one to study the role of X-ray heating in the process of reionization. However, the cross angular power spectrum of the CMB polarization and SXRB maps constructed from ROSAT RASS and WMAP five-year maps is consistent with no correlation. We attribute this negative detection to both the extremely weak signals and large instrumental noises. While a future search is needed with high sensitivity instruments for both CMB polarization and soft X-ray photons, our current results can still be used as a useful constraint on the effect of X-ray heating in the epoch of reionization. A cross-correlation of WMAP and ROSAT
We cross-correlate the recent CMB WMAP 1 year data with the diffuse soft X-ray background map of ROSAT. We look for common signatures due to galaxy clusters (SZ effect in CMB, bremsstrahlung in X-rays) by cross-correlating the two maps in real and in Fourier space. We do not find any significant correlation and we explore the different reasons for this lack of correlation. The most likely candi...
متن کاملSearch for GRB X-ray afterglows in the ROSAT all-sky survey
We describe a search for X-ray afterglows from gamma-ray bursts using the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS) data. If the emission in the soft X-ray band is significantly less beamed than in the gamma-ray band, we expect to detect many afterglows in the RASS. Our search procedure generated 23 afterglow candidates, where about 4 detections are predicted. However, follow-up spectroscopy of several count...

متن کاملX-ray emission from young stars in the Tucanae association
We report on X-ray emission from members of the recently discovered Tucanae association, a group of stars with youth signatures and similar space motion. The Tucanae association is the nearest known region of recent star formation (∼ 45 pc) far from molecular clouds (Zuckerman & Webb 2000). We have made use of the ROSAT Data Archive and searched for X-rays from Tucanae stars in both ROSAT All-S...
متن کاملGalactic SNR candidates in the ROSAT all-sky survey
Identified radio supernova remnants (SNRs) in the Galaxy comprise an incomplete sample of the SNR population due to various selection effects. ROSAT performed the first all-sky survey with an imaging X-ray telescope, and thus provides another window for finding SNRs and compact objects that may reside within them. Performing a search for extended X-ray sources in the ROSAT all-sky survey databa...
